AshLeigh Dunham Endorsed by Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb
BIRMINGHAM, Al.—May 13, 2026— AshLeigh Meyer Dunham’s campaign announced Tuesday the endorsement of Sue Bell Cobb, a historic figure in Alabama whose career has been defined by breaking barriers and fighting for children, families, and a more just state.
Cobb made history in 2006 as the first woman elected Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama—a milestone that reshaped the landscape of leadership in Alabama and paved the way for future generations.
Over nearly three decades on the bench, Cobb built a reputation not only as a jurist, but as a reformer—championing juvenile justice reform, expanding drug courts, and working to reduce the number of children incarcerated while improving outcomes for families across the state. Her leadership helped drive reforms that reduced juvenile incarceration by more than half and expanded access to rehabilitative services for young people.
She also co-founded the Alabama Children First Foundation, an organization dedicated to advancing policies that support children and strengthen families—work that has directed significant resources toward services for Alabama’s most vulnerable.
Announcing her endorsement, Cobb pointed to a shared commitment with Dunham rooted in those same priorities.
“AshLeigh Meyer Dunham understands that the strength of Alabama starts with the well-being of our children and families,” Cobb said. “She is also committed to putting people over politics, which reflects the kind of leadership our state needs right now.”
Dunham’s campaign has centered on many of the same issues that defined Cobb’s career—protecting children, supporting working families, and ensuring that Alabama’s systems serve people fairly and effectively.
“I am deeply honored to have the support of Chief Justice Cobb,” Dunham said. “She has spent her life fighting for Alabama’s children and families, and her legacy is one of real, measurable change. That’s exactly the kind of leadership I believe in—leadership that shows up, does the work, and makes a difference in people’s lives.”
Cobb’s endorsement signals growing momentum for Dunham’s campaign and underscores a broader coalition forming around a vision for Alabama that prioritizes practical solutions, strong communities, and opportunity for the next generation.
From improving access to healthcare and education to strengthening the systems that support children and families, Dunham said her campaign is focused on carrying forward the kind of results-driven leadership Cobb exemplified throughout her career.
“As Chief Justice, Sue Bell Cobb didn’t just hold a title—she used that position to improve lives across this state,” Dunham added. “That’s the standard we should expect from our leaders, and it’s the standard I intend to meet.”
